Trad. “Girls’ Skipping Rhyme” from Chokely in Wynterset:

“I have a deadly nightshade
So twisted does it grow
With berries black as midnight
And a skull as white as snow
The vicar’s cocky young son
Came to drink my tea
He touched me without asking
Now he’s buried ‘neath a tree.”

Unfortunately, there is not much info about this girl's skipping rhyme, so we cannot be sure if this is indeed traditional, or something made up in modern times. Either way, I love it and wanted to create an old style fairytale illustration that one would find in a vintage story-book, of two women happily skipping through the woods while singing this rather sinister (but awesome) song. I’m trying my hand lately at a variety of styles while still maintaining my own style and niche, and it's been challenging but fun! It makes me feel like my art is traveling back in time, and showing up in different periods. I truly hope you like it too!
