Text in card:

Eir is a deity from Norse mythology, primarily associated with healing and medicine. Her name, which may be derived from a word meaning "help" or "mercy," positions her as a compassionate figure in the Norse pantheon.

Historical and mythological accounts of Eir are scant, with her most notable mention in Snorri Sturluson's "Prose Edda," a 13th-century compilation of earlier Norse myths and sagas. In Norse culture, which often experienced the ravages of warfare, the role of a healing deity was significant. Eir's prominence in this aspect highlights the value placed on medical knowledge and the healing arts in ancient Norse society. As a Valkyrie, Eir accompanied her battle-sisters, and while the other Valkyries picked through the slain, Eir would choose who would live and recover, and return to health.

Folk tradition holds that Eir was invoked in healing rituals using a white flower known as Eirflower. Eir's mythological role extends beyond mere physical well-being of individuals. She is occasionally associated with or considered a companion of the goddess Frigg, reflecting her integral position in the divine hierarchy.

Despite her significance, Eir remains an enigmatic figure, with much of her mythology lost or not recorded in surviving texts. Her character embodies the complex interplay between warfare and healing, and continues to be a subject of interest in the study of Norse mythology and religion.

May this amulet of Eir be your steadfast guardian. May it keep you healthy, cradle you in safety, and guide you through storms with unwavering strength. Let it be a beacon of wellbeing, wrapping you in a cloak of protection and nurturing your spirit.
