Harpies are creatures from Greek mythology that are often depicted as female monsters with the heads of women and the bodies of birds. They were said to be the daughters of the sea god Thaumas and the ocean nymph Electra and were associated with the underworld.

In Greek mythology harpies were often seen as agents of punishment and carried out the orders of the gods by snatching people and things away. They were known for their sharp talons and were said to be incredibly fast and agile in flight.

Harpies have been featured in numerous works of literature art and popular culture over the centuries. They have been portrayed in a variety of ways from terrifying monsters to sympathetic characters. Despite their fearsome reputation the harpies remain an enduring symbol of Greek mythology and continue to captivate the imagination of people today.
