Artio
Artio is a Celtic bear goddess worshipped in ancient Gaul and parts of what is now Switzerland. Her name comes from the Gaulish word artos, meaning “bear,” and she is closely tied to wildlife, forests, and the cycles of nature. As a guardian of animals and the wild, Artio was honored for her nurturing presence as well as her formidable strength.
She is often depicted alongside a bear or in the form of one, symbolizing protection, courage, and deep connection to the earth. In some interpretations, the bear represents Artio herself, a maternal force who provides shelter, sustenance, and guidance through the dark.
Though little written mythology survives, archaeological finds and inscriptions show she was a beloved goddess of abundance, particularly in regions where humans and nature coexisted closely. She is often associated with the harvest, hibernation, and the quiet wisdom of the forest.
This statue is ideal for invoking grounding, protection, abundance, and reconnection with nature. Artio is a gentle yet powerful presence, perfect for those seeking calm strength, earth magic, and wild feminine energy.
