Persephone is the Greek goddess of spring and the queen of the Underworld. In her early form as Kore (meaning "maiden"), she symbolizes innocence, joy, and the freshness of youth. Her story begins in a sunlit meadow, where she was gathering flowers, until Hades, god of the Underworld, emerged and took her below to be his bride.
Her mother, Demeter, goddess of the harvest, searched for her endlessly, causing the earth to grow barren. When Persephone was finally allowed to return, she had already eaten pomegranate seeds from the Underworld, binding her to spend part of each year there. This cycle gave rise to the seasons: her time above brings growth and spring, while her descent marks autumn and winter.
Persephone is a goddess of duality, both light and shadow, maiden and queen. She teaches us that descent can lead to power, and that rebirth is always possible.
This statue is ideal for invoking transformation, reclaiming personal power, working with shadow and growth, or honoring cycles of change, especially when stepping into a new phase of life.
